What Greenhead is
An assistant for waterfowl hunters. It gathers bird survey counts
published by state wildlife agencies, weather from the National Weather
Service, and published harvest records, and uses Claude to help you
decide where to hunt and how to set up.
What Greenhead is not
It is not a legal authority. This is the important one.
Season dates shown in the app come from state agency publications and
may be out of date, incomplete, or wrong. The app does not show bag
limits, possession limits, shooting hours, species or sex restrictions,
zone boundaries, licence requirements, or federal stamp requirements.
**You are responsible for knowing and following the regulations where
you hunt.** Check your state agency's current regulations before every
hunt. If the app says a season is open and the regulations say
otherwise, the regulations are right.
Species identification is not reliable. If you send a photo of a
bird, you will get a best guess with its reasoning. Do not use it to
make a decision that affects a bag limit. Confirm the bird in hand.
Accuracy
Survey counts are birds that agency staff observed on a stated date.
They are hand-entered, sometimes wrong, often weeks old, and never a
promise that birds are there now. Harvest records describe what hunters
shot historically, not what you will shoot.
Weather is a forecast. Forecasts are wrong.
The assistant can be wrong too, including confidently. Treat it as a
well-informed hunting partner, not an oracle.
Safety
Waterfowl hunting involves firearms, cold water, boats and darkness.
Nothing in this app is a substitute for your own judgement about whether
conditions are safe. Do not use your phone in a way that distracts you
while handling a firearm or operating a boat.
If the app says a marsh is holding birds and your gut says the ice, the
wind or the water is wrong, listen to your gut.
Your account and your data
Your hunts, plans, photos and locations belong to you. We do not sell
them or share them with other users. See the Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for what you upload. Do not upload photos of other
people without their agreement, and do not upload anything illegal.
Fair use
Accounts have a monthly message limit to keep costs sustainable. Limits
are generous enough that ordinary use will never reach them. Automated
or abusive use may have its access removed.
Availability
This is a small independent app. It may break, go down, or change.
Features may be added or removed. We will try to give notice of changes
that matter, but no uptime is guaranteed.
Liability
Greenhead is provided as-is, with no warranty. To the fullest extent
allowed by law, we are not liable for losses arising from your use of
the app - including citations, missed hunts, wasted trips, or decisions
you make based on its advice.
This does not limit any liability that cannot legally be limited.
Changes
Material changes will be shown in the app before they take effect.
